Hatchet is a fun action packed book, and it is filled with ups and downs. It is about thirteen year old Brian who is on his way to Canada to visit his dad, but the story takes a dramatic twist on the way there. This leaves Brian alone in the Canadian wilderness. Let's take a flashback to before he boards the plane. Before he gets on the plane his mom gives him a hatchet, Brian carries this hatchet on his belt, and forgets about it until he is all alone. The hatchet is all he has. Back in the city, Brian was kind of lazy, but he paid attention. But will his skills come in handy on this adventure? I think Brian is a strong and smart person, he has good ideas and solutions. Though at first he is like every other teenager. Throughout the story there are a series of ups and downs, for example Brian invents ways to hunt and catch animals, he even makes a “home". But one weather disaster changed it all and he was back at square one. Brian is already trying to fight for his life, but the thought of the secret which started the divorce of his parents always keeps him awake at night. He is alone, but in a way he is not. He has the animals, which can be used for food, but they also cause problems. Brian runs into a few critters like a porcupine and I’m pretty sure you can tell how that played out. My favorite part of this story was when he ran into a moose that left a mark on Brian, and in this chapter the weather disaster happens. That was my favorite part, but the whole book was great, I highly recommend you read it. I think it would interest readers from ten and over and maybe even eight or nine year olds. It is definitely a five star review from me. I hope you enjoy Hatchet!About 4 years agoaleinbanna434 added a book review.

Nice survival book. I don't want to spoil anything but basically in the very beginning his plane crashed and the pilot died from a heart attack. He had to survive on his own and learn to do many things. If you like the book I suggest reading the other books in the series.About 4 years agoaleinbanna434liked a comment in Hatchet.
This is a wonderful book! It's about hunting and the wilderness, it is a pretty serious book so i wouldn't recommend the book to people who don't like to read serious books. I recommend this book to grades 5-7 because some words in the book could be hard to pronounce for 5th and 6th graders. Overall, I loved this book!About 4 years agoaleinbanna434liked a comment in Hatchet.
Hatchet tells a great story about how hard it is to live off the wild after living in modern society. Brian has to learn most of his skill for himself without any help. Brian starts out as a normal city child, but after he is forced to survive on his own, he becomes in tune with nature, and this is investigated further in later books in the series.About 4 years agoaleinbanna434liked a comment in Hatchet.
